ASM Global’s Puerto Rico Convention Center
Achieves the Accreditation from the GBAC STAR™ Facility Program

(San Juan, Puerto Rico – September 2020) – Puerto Rico Convention Center (PRCC) has announced the approval of the Global Biorisk Advisory Council® (GBAC) STAR™ accreditation, the gold standard for facilities dedicated to serving large amounts of public. Under the guidance of GBAC, a Division of ISSA, the worldwide cleaning industry association, PRCC will implement the most stringent protocols for cleaning, disinfection and infectious disease prevention in its facility, thus entering a select group of spaces that have committed to exceeding all comparable requirements to provide security to their visitors and customers.

As the cleaning industry’s only outbreak prevention, response and recovery accreditation, GBAC STAR™ helps organizations establish protocols and procedures, offers expert-led training and assesses a facility’s readiness for biorisk situations. The program will verify that PRCC implements best practices to prepare for, respond to and recover from outbreaks and pandemics.

“GBAC STAR accreditation empowers facility owners and managers to assure workers, customers and key stakeholders that they have proven systems in place to maintain clean and healthy environments,” said GBAC Executive Director Patricia Olinger. “By taking this important step to pursue GBAC STAR, PRCC will receive third-party validation that it follows strict protocols for biorisk situations, thereby demonstrating its preparedness and commitment to operating safely.”

“This accreditation raises to the highest levels our commitment to provide our clients and visitors with health and hygiene measures that will allow us to carry out face-to-face events, minimizing the risk of spread and impact, not only due to the current situation but also for any health and safety threats we may have in the future’, said Jorge Pérez, general manager for the Puerto Rico Convention Center.

In those same terms, the executive director of the Puerto Rico Convention District Authority, Noelia García, stated that “with this new certification we validate the work we have been doing so that the public facilities that are part of the Convention District can operate again, going one step further to give peace of mind to all clients who wish to hold events, as well as to the citizens who visit us, that will now be able to enjoy their activities safely and with all the appropriate protocols in function.”

To achieve GBAC STAR™ accreditation, PRCC will demonstrate compliance with the program’s 20 core elements, which range from standard operating procedures and risk assessment strategies to personal protective equipment and emergency preparedness and response measures.
